To my family, friends, and generations to come,

We as a species have managed to transform the world in unimaginable ways, and it’s not all good. For the sake of the Earth and all of its inhabitants, we need to preserve the biodiversity and natural wonders, beauties, and landscapes it has to offer. I promise to do my best to ensure that future generations won’t have to fight to be able to care for the Earth. I promise to do everything in my power to promote a culture of wellbeing and environmental nourishment, so that forests, glaciers, and undersea environments; lions, and tigers and polar bears (oh my!) will not be confined to fairy tales and history books.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

Dear Future Grandchildren,

I hope I can look you in the eye and tell you I honestly did everything I could to protect our planet.

I promise to plant trees and to turn off the lights.

Dear Madeline, Ava, and Harper,

What I wish most for you girls is that the care you have shown each other would extend to the big wide world around you.

Dear future generations,

I pledge to you now that I will work tirelessly and with all my willpower so you don’t have to live in a world where you have to worry about the next storm.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to change the culture of my school.

Dear future me,

If we don’t stop cutting down trees for agriculture and to build houses then the future generations will not think about trees when they hear the word Earth.

Dear future me,

I am 19 years old, and I am angry.

Dear Ryan,

I hope that you start doing things that will help the world.

Dear Levon,

I hope, as your father, I’ve done enough to instill within you how science is a wonderful adventure.

To Annika, Anders, Stella, Eva, and Mickey,

In writing to you, I realize that I don’t want you to be hard on yourself if you choose to not make this your cause. But it is mine, so I hope that you hold me accountable to some of what I wrote here.

Annalu minha filha amada,

Espero de coração que, no futuro, você possa olhar para trás e se orgulhar muito dos pais que teve.
