Dear Future Self,

It’s 2019 and climate change has had a large effect over many people in many different forms. Climate change caused by fossil fuels and Carbon Dioxide Emissions. Scientists believe that climate change has been melting glaciers in the arctic and in Antarctica and causing many natural disasters such as large hurricanes. Recently, the Amazon, the world’s largest rainforest has been burning to increase land for farmers and industrial companies. Sea levels have been rising and coastlines have diminished. Many people still disregard climate change and if we don’t do anything to stop it soon, it will have catastrophic irreversible effects on our planet.

More Messages to the Future

To My Dear Grandchildren,

Be assured that in the upcoming election, I will cast my vote for your future – for elected officials that recognize climate risks and are willing to promote and vote for legislation that will stop environmental damage and begin to heal our planet.

Dear Eleanor,

You are so small. So innocent. So beautiful. For you and for everyone else, I will try harder.

Dear Madeleine,

First of all I hope we succeeded in our dream that yours is a better world than the world of 2021. Today, the forests are burning, the sea levels are rising and wild weather is everywhere. But we are working hard and I’m confident we will succeed.

Dear Tomorrow,

I’ll buy only food that I plan to eat before it spoils.

Salutations to whoever may be reading this,

I promise to do my part. I promise to be the change I want to see in the world, and I hope that you, reader, will do the same.

Dear Future Ryan,

I promise to be a knight in the campaign of truth seeking.

To my Dad,

I hope on this Father’s Day, my 24th birthday, and the rest of days, we remember that the most basic part of life is living happy with the ones we love. Acting every day against climate change will allow us to keep that simple piece of humanity.

Dear Thomas,

When you look at me with those big beautiful eyes and that innocent smile, you make me want to fight harder. And I do.

Dear Students,

I imagine at this point we have dropped our addiction to coal, gas, and oil and that our environment has made a turn for the better with the solar, wind, and other unimagined (at this point) alternative energy choices are in place.

Dearest Gray,

When I asked you why the purple Violet called to you, you told me it was “magic”. I hope that you can still find the magic of life. I hope, despite everything, it is still in abundance.

Dear Potential Future Kiddo,

To think that my choices of sustainable commuting, eating a plant based diet, and working on our City’s zero waste program likely pale in comparison to the impact of not having a baby is nothing short of devastating.  Does it make me a bad environmentalist to honor my maternal instincts?

Dear Tomorrow

I will get my roommates to be more environmentally friendly.
