dear future self,

I am very concerned with what has been going on around the world with increasingly deadlier natural disasters, and it only seems to be getting worse over time because of climate change. Upon taking notice in the news, natural disasters are breaking more devastating records, and to the point where they are broken every year. Something I will never forget is the 2018 wildfire season in California, where the most deadly wildfires in state history took the most lives and even wiped out and entire town, called Paradise. In my perspective, since I haven’t experienced something of this great magnitude in devastation before, it really seems that California (and really other parts of the world too) are becoming more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. I remember about the two massive Hurricanes (Harvey and Irma) creating destruction in Texas and Florida. In my opinion, the real problem to climate change is the lack of willingness to take necessary action, and it could be because of multiple reasons. I admit that before I did not believe in this phenomenon on climate change, mostly due to my feeling that it’s insignificant in scale. Now I got to experience this problem in my own community, and I know and feel that it is getting closer, bigger, and more devastating over time. I promise that I will take action in the future on increasing public awareness and belief on that this climate change problem is real and we all need to do something about it immediately.

Dear Gabriel,

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” – The Lorax

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

Isabelle minha querida neta!

Nossa vida só tem qualidade se tem natureza ao nosso redor.

Dear Future,

I will use less plastic.

Dear old dude Mårten,

I know that the 2019 version of me (today that is) wished and hoped for that I did all within my power to turn the world around without loosing sight on the beauty of being alive.

Dear Nolan, Patrick, Cullen and Gabriel,

This Mother’s Day I am again thinking of my grandsons future and what I am doing to change the world if only by a small fraction.

Dear Jack,

Right now you are only a little over 5 weeks old, but you have truly changed my whole world. Your Mom and I always say that we thought we loved before you were born, but now that you have come into the world and we met you, our ability to love just expanded exponentially.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to work with my family and neighbors to reduce carbon output.

Dear Future Earth,

I promise to promote the growth of clean energy, like solar… For the sake of my grandchildren.

dear future people (:

I am writing this message to you guys. When I look outside my window today, I see a beautiful world that others and myself call “home sweet home.” The trees glimmering in warm sunlight, the air stirring a cool breeze, and the water flowing down rivers are parts of our home Mother Earth.

Dear future child whatever your name is,

Climate change right now is really bad, I’m writing this during the COP26 conference in Glasgow (which is an hour away) and I’m listening to politicians talking about promises for the future. “If we fail, future generations will never forgive us.” -Boris Johnson

Dear Tomorrow,

Awareness is key. Learning about this issue can seem like a small effort compared to other actions, but it’s the most important.
