Dear Future Changemakers,

Speak your truth and speak THE truth. Never hold back, the earth needs your voice. Although the future is looking quite scary, people need to hear you communicate this. People need to hear exactly what is going on. “Confucianism uses no acronyms or synonyms.” When it comes to climate change or social injustice issues, there is no time to dance around the matter using acronyms or synonyms to lessen the intensity of the matter. Speak your truth and speak THE truth.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Brady,

I will work everyday to combat climate change for your today, for your tomorrow!

Oi Luc,

Estou esperando ansiosa sua chegada pra que a gente possa fazer muitas coisas boas juntos, uma delas, é cuidar bem do nosso planeta.

Dear Future Me,

I hope that when we look back on these years,  you’ll see that humanity can be good. That we joined together and fixed it because of we don’t, who will?

Dear future me,

I am 19 years old, and I am angry.

Dear Llewyn, beloved grandson …

I can only say that I devoted myself to doing as much as I could to make it better, to provide for a just transition, and to fight those forces that continued to exploit the Eaarth with extractive methods, methods that always also included oppressing some people–because those doing the oppression believed that they were better and deserved more.

Dear Future Earth,

I promise to promote the growth of clean energy, like solar… For the sake of my grandchildren.

Dear Abigail and Olivia,

What stories will you tell them about our generation? Will we be heroes or villains?

Dear Elliot and Alana,

But being truthful, I know we are not yet on the path that will lead to the change that is needed; but it is visible.

Dear Rosie,

But when you are reading this years from now, by the light of a solar powered lamp, know that your dad, mom and millions of others who burned brightly with love for our kids did what we could, when we knew the stakes.

Dear Lalo,

I hope whatever happens, whatever I can’t imagine that you may face, that you will continue to seek light.

Dear Tomorrow,

And, if this summer has taught me anything, I am content (because I have to be) living in this limbo, this seemingly endless waiting for the opportunity to change, when really the opportunity exists within our very selves all along.

To my future children,

It’s not enough to just recycle. I will sign petitions and call my local representatives. I will also engage in conversations about climate change – even with people with whom I don’t see eye-to-eye.
