Dear Daughter,

Today is May 2nd, 2022. I am in a Global Environment class in my second year of college, and we have learned so much about climate change and the concerns that we are facing. Today I am making a promise to try to live as sustainable as I can to ensure that you can experience so many wonderful parts of the world, like the trees, the flowers, the plants, and so much more.

I’m sitting in the grass on the quad right now, with the wind slightly blowing and it is so peaceful. I hope that in 2050 you aren’t learning about the problems that can arise if we don’t make changes, and I hope those changes don’t happen. I know I can do my part by reducing my carbon footprint, saving energy, and making sustainable choices for the food I eat and the clothes I wear. I can invest in the choices I make in the present so that you can have a great future.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Future Me,

I hope that when we look back on these years,  you’ll see that humanity can be good. That we joined together and fixed it because of we don’t, who will?

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to ride more and drive less.

Dear Beloved Children,

As time progresses, there is hope that value will be placed on all living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals. Life will move at a slower pace, and being on your own time and moving at your individual pace will be the typical way of life. I consider this way of life good living, and I hope that future generations will live on this earth as it was once intended to live in peace and harmony.

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII.  I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

To My Future Children,

I hope by 2050, our society has taken initiative to be producing energy solely through renewable sources.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to not waste food and eat locally grown food.

Dear Future,

“I knew you would want to know how the future turned out. You got so anxious about climate change as we grew older.  By coming back, I thought I could help you with that.”

Dear Peyton and Lucas,

I want you to continue to enjoy bright, beautiful, blue skies, gigantic shady trees, chirping birds, scampering squirrels, sparkling creeks and all that this amazing world has to offer!

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to buy organic food and run more and bike more! (I could use the exercise.)

Dear Future Afnan,

You should make a time machine and come back to past and solve all the problems.

Dear Annie and Eric,

I hope that this life of good things is not just yours to enjoy, but that you also have decided to fight for others to have this life, too.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will do whatever I can to protect and preserve mother Earth for future generations.
